AUSTIN, TX. – The City of Austin recently launched an affordable parking program aimed at easing the financial burden on tourism and hospitality workers who have to park downtown on a daily or nightly basis.

There’s no doubt that parking in Austin Texas can get expensive. Especially if you have to park downtown for your job or business.

Thankfully, anyone who has to park downtown now has an affordable option available to them because, with the affordable parking program, workers will only have to pay between $35 and $65 per month for parking at Waller Creek Center compared to paying much more elsewhere.

About the Affordable Parking Program

Additional evening parking will also be available at One Texas Center garage on Barton Springs Road and the City Hall garage.

“Studies have shown that, on average, 30 percent of the cars in downtown traffic are looking for parking,” Dewitt Peart, president and chief executive officer of the Downtown Austin Alliance, said. “Having enough convenient, available parking spaces is critical to keeping traffic flowing as downtown continues to grow."

To qualify for the program, you will need to apply online. Click here to learn more.

Making Use of Underused Public Assets

One of the great things about Austin’s affordable parking program is that it makes better use of underused public assets or parking spaces that might not be in use other than a couple of times per week.

With this parking program, the City of Austin has gained another source of revenue that can be used for funding public projects and moving the city forward as one of the most forward-thinking cities in the United States.
